Praia da Baleia, Ceará
A fishing village on the western coast of Ceará, in the municipality of Itapipoca. Open sand, dunes, palm trees, lagoons and a wind you can count on.
An authentic coast on the rise
Baleia has about four kilometres of open beach. At low tide the sand stretches far out and the water turns into a mirror. There are no high-rises, no crowded boulevards and no mass tourism. You'll find fresh fish and seafood, açaí and Brazilian barbecue with a view of the ocean.
The region is changing quickly. A new four-lane road from Fortaleza has made the drive shorter and more comfortable, and Baleia sits halfway between Fortaleza and Jericoacoara, the coast's best-known destination. More and more kitesurfers, families and second-home buyers are discovering the village, while it keeps its calm character.
The steady trade wind makes Baleia a natural kitesurf spot, with Mundaú's river mouth and the flat water of Lagoa do Mato close by. Late October falls in the heart of Ceará's windy season.
